We understand that there may be questions about the service, how it works, how long it works, etc. Our goal is to ensure that you have total confidence when you begin working with NOMOmosquitoes.com.
What products are used and are they safe?
Our teams use two products for mosquito control treatment.
The most commonly used spray for the barrier spray treatment is pyrethroids a synthetic version of pyrethrins. Pyrethrins are found in nature and are from the Chrysanthemum flower. The synthetic pyrenthroids are used in many commercial products such as: pet shampoos and sprays, lice shampoo and household insecticides. The product is water-based and will not harm plants.
The natural sprays use a highly condensed natural garlic spray. As well as essential oils that ward off mosquitoes and when dry, kill them. These products are used for our natural care spray solution as well as used around ponds, vegatable gardens and flowers. This helps ensure that pollinators (bees) or aquatic life (fish) are not harmed.
All products are EPA-registered.
How long does it take for treatment to work?
The spray treatments can make a nearly immediate impact on the mosquitoes in your yard. The sprays create a barrier which repel mosquitoes and eventually kill them. The spray covers bushes, trees and areas where mosquitoes are most prevalent.
The primary treatment lasts about 21-days; while the natural treatment lasts around 14-days.
Is the service guaranteed?
Yes! NOMO Mosquitoes focuses on providing a service that helps our customers get back to life outside! If you are noticing mosquitoes in your yard after the 3rd treatment, our team will come out and do an additional spray at NO COST! Nature has ways to fight back, so we will help ensure that we create the best outcome possible for your yard.
What do you spray (trees, bushes, grass)?
The goal of spraying is to get where mosquitoes are and where they will be! The spraying is designed to cover these areas and often include: trees, bushes, vines, grass areas, etc.
Our goal is to get you back into your yard quickly, after about 20-30 minutes.
Does the treatment help with other pests?
Yes. The chemicals can kill a variety of insects – including critical pollinators. That is why our teams specialize in ensuring that all spray treatments focus on killing mosquitoes only. The time we spray, the use of natural elements and more help us ensure that pollinators and other valuable insects are not harmed.
Do we need to be home during the treatment?
You do not need to be home, but our spray technicians will need access to your yard. This includes rear access, gates, etc. to ensure that we can complete a full treatment.
You will be notified when the service is completed via a text message or a door hanger. It will show the time completed to ensure that product has time to dry (typically 20 – 30 minutes), at that time – they yard is ready.
How will we know the treatment was completed?
You will receive a text message or a door hanger that will confirm the date and time of treatment. If you believe treatment is not completed, please contact us immediately and we can verify with the crew and leveraging proprietary geolocation technology.
How can rain affect treatment?
All of our treatments are water-based but once the product dries completely, the rain will only remove a small fraction of the treatment. Services are not available on rainy days, but our teams will automatically reschedule for the days soon after any rain storms.
How much does this cost?
The cost is based on your yard size and treatment desires (standard vs. all-natural). The base cost is only $79 per treatment, a tri-weekly treatment that helps ensure the mosquito life-cycle and continually interrupted. If your home requires more work, we will honor the original price for the first 3 services. Prior to the third service, a cost revision will be covered – if approved, services will continue uninterrupted.
Do you provide commercial services / businesses?
Yes, absolutely! The barrier treatment works in nearly any environment. The treatment is great for restaurants with outdoor dining, parks, sports fields, daycare, churches, wedding venues, playgrounds, schools and more.
How long before we can go into the yard after spray treatment?
30 minutes. For all barrier treatments, the chemical is dried after about 20 – 30 minutes; at that time the treatment is complete and the yard is ready!
For natural treatments, it is safe immediately. However, you will notice a very strong garlic odor which takes about 2 hours to normalize.
Will the treatment affect my pool or ponds?
The primary chemical spray treatment are harmful to fish and we typically avoid using the pyrethroids around ponds unless necessary. Our technicians are trained to ensure that the chemicals do not touch the water. Same for pools, while the chemical does not impact pools – we avoid getting any spray in the pool water.
Why do mosquitoes feed on blood?
Only female mosquitoes feed on blood, it is used to mature their eggs prior to laying – the blood serves no nourishment or energy. Males do not consume blood and obtain their energy just like females from plant nectars.
Why do humans have a reaction to the bite?
Mosquito bites are extremely annoying and are a reaction of the immune system trying to flush out the bite. When a mosquito bites, their saliva is injected into the body. This is seen by the immune system as a foreign substance and the bite; which itches and swells is because of the body’s histamine response.
How do mosquitoes survive through freezing weather?
Mosquitoes function best at about 80 degrees F, they become lethargic at 60 degrees F and cannot function below 50 degrees F. Some mosquitoes have extremely winter hardened eggs and they hibernate as embryos in eggs laid by the last generation of females in Summer. The eggs can survive submerged under ice and hatch in Spring as the temperatures rise – starting the cycle all over again. Other types of mosquitoes can go into full hibernation and survive over winter until Spring – at which time the warm weather brings them outside again.
What is a mosquito’s life span?
Do mosquitoes serve a purpose?
Mosquitoes are actually pollinators and help serve the purpose of pollination throughout their life span. Since both male and female mosquitoes feed on nectar, they are helping the ecosystem by pollinating important plants feeding much large animals. Mosquitoes themselves are also a source of food for many species.
Do ultrasonic devices work against mosquitoes?
No. There have been a number of studies that prove that ultrasonic devices do not prevent mosquito bites.
Do mosquito traps work?
There are two primary classes of mosquito traps, the old school buzzing blue light and the new carbon dioxide traps.
The blue light buzzing light models are now often using Octenol to help attract mosquitoes; this helps to mimic a human breath – which mosquitoes are attracted to. When mosquitoes get trapped – the electrical system will kill the mosquito. However, the number of mosquitoes is negligible and typically doesn’t impact the overall population or spread. Systems without Octenol are useless.
Carbon dioxide traps often use propane to burn off and create carbon dioxide a mosquito attractant. The systems typically employ a fan and trap model that locks the mosquitoes into a container; where the mosquito dies after it dehydrates. The systems are effective within a range but require consistent maintenance and refilling of the propane container.
