Mosquitoes in the United States

There are more than 3,000 unique species of mosquitoes throughout the entire World and about 200 (176 to be exact) can be found right here in the North America. There are 3 very common mosquito genera: Aedes, Culex and Anopheles; which make up the 176 species in the United States.

Each mosquito has unique characteristics and some are more dangerous that others. Ultimately, mosquitoes are a PAIN and so many suffer from bites, ruined picnics or parties and sometimes deadly consequences.

Culex Mosquitoes
The Culex Mosquito typically prefers avian (bird) hosts, but will also bit humans. They typically hunt at night and can be found indoors and outdoors. Spraying can limit the number of Culex mosquitoes in your yard and surrounding your house.

Diseases Include: West Nile Virus, Western/Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

Eggs: Lay eggs in rafts on the water surface of polluted freshwater sites and artificial containers.

Location: All parts of the US.
Anopheles Mosquitoes
The Anopheles Mosquito prefer human and mammal hosts. They typically hunt between duck and dawn and can be found indoors and outdoors. Spraying can limit the number of Anopheles mosquitoes in your yard and surrounding your house.

Diseases Include: Malaria.

Eggs: Lay eggs with floats on the surface of natural, vegetated water bodies (e.g., ponds, marshes, swamps).

Location: Eastern and Western U.S.
Aedes Mosquitoes
The Aedes Mosquito prefers human hosts and unlike most mosquitoes in the U.S., they are active during the day. Spraying can limit the number of Aedes mosquitoes in your yard and surrounding your house.

Diseases Include: Zika, Chikungunya, Yellow Fever, Dengue.

Eggs: Lay eggs singly on or near the surface of temporary water sources (e.g., used tires, flower pots, pools, roof tanks).

Location: Across the East Coast, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, and Southern U.S.
